For dough:

  • 1 cup rice flour or maida (all purpose flour)
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

For filling:

  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup cabbage (finely chopped )
  • 1 cup tofu or paneer or boiled chicken pieces (crumbled)
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder (as per your taste)
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste/juliennes
  • 1 tbsp garlic cloves (finely chopped/garlic paste)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup oil


  1. Make dough by mixing all ingredients and adding water just enough to make soft, smooth dough that is not too soft.

For filling:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and fry until tender and then add ginger and garlic paste and fry a bit.
  2. Add green chillies, cabbage, red chilli powder or black pepper powder and stir fry for a short time.
  3. Remove from the flame and add the other ingredients and soy sauce and mix.


  1. Make small balls of the dough and roll them flat.Put one spoonful of filling in the center and lift up the edges and pinch them together.
  2. Prepare momos and keep them ready for steaming.
  3. Put momos in a bamboo basked or in a metal sieve(greased with bit oil).
  4. Put water in a large container.Place the bamboo basked over the container and cover and steam for 30 minutes.

Serve with hot and sour red chilli sauce or anything of your choice.
